Problem to run a Linux Demo on SAMA5D27-SOM1-EK1

Fri Apr 12, 2019 6:02 pm

Hello,
I have bought a SAMA5D27 SOM1 EK but I have problems to run a demo from linux4sam/bin/view/Linux4SAM/Sama5d27Som1EKMainPage.

For example, I have downloaded this file "linux4sam-buildroot-sama5d27_som1_ek-6.0.img.bz2" to my pc, I have created a SD card with Etcher but I only receive in my terminal:

RomBOOT
RomBOOT

I have tried a SD card and a micro-SD, I have created the SD with Etcher and with the "dd" linux command but nothing.

Any suggestion, please???

Did you verify the integrity of the downloaded file using the MD5 hash?

Examine the first sector of the SD card for a valid MBR.
For example, on a Linux PC with the SD card in a USB adapter as the second disk drive, /dev/sdb:
$ sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=sector0.bin count=1
$ od -t x1 sector0.bin
The last two bytes should be 0x55 and 0xAA.

If your SD card has a valid MBR, then the Linux PC could/should try to automount the FAT16 and ext4 filesystems on the card.

Hello Blue_z,
I have checked the md5 sum of the file and it is ok then I have examinad the first sector of the SD card and I can see this:
root:~> od -t x1 sector0.bin
0000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
*
0000660 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 20
0000700 21 00 0c 2a 28 02 00 08 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 2a
0000720 29 02 83 6f 2c 43 00 88 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00
0000740 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0000760 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 55 aa
0001000
root:~>

The last two bytes are 0x55 and 0xAA.

When I execute fdisk on my linux pc I see this of my SD:
root:~> fdisk -l

Disco /dev/sdb: 7,4 GiB, 7969177600 bytes, 15564800 sectores
Unidades: sectores de 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Tamaño de E/S (mínimo/óptimo): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Tipo de etiqueta de disco: dos
Identificador del disco: 0x00000000

/dev/sdb2 34816 1083391 1048576 512M 83 Linux

Any ideas?

Install the latest SAM-BA 3.x for your host PC, and setup a SAM-BA connection with your board.
There's disorganized information at linux4sam/bin/view/Linux4SAM/Samba3Subsections that might help.

Verify that the boot sequence configuration registers are sane on your board:
$ sam-ba -p serial:ttyACM0 -d sama5d2 -a bootconfig -c readcfg:bscr -c readcfg:bureg0 -c readcfg:bureg1 -c readcfg:bureg2 -c readcfg:bureg3 -c readcfg:fuse

Verify that your board can read the SD card, and that the SD card has the expected data (by comparing it with the uncompressed image file):
$ sam-ba -p serial -t 5 -b sama5d27-som1-ek -a sdmmc:0 -c verify:linux4sam-buildroot-sama5d27_som1_ek-6.0.img
Verification of at least 17,825,280 (or 0x10FFE00) bytes will confirm the entire first partition for the FAT filesystem.
